Frequently asked questions

Does my pet need to be vaccinated?

Pets must have up to date vaccinations, which is a condition of our licence as granted to us by Neath Port Talbot Borough County Council and for dogs kennel cough must have been administered at least 2 weeks prior to your stay.

What should my pet pack for their stay?

Canine and feline guests:

  • Leads and collars (dogs only)

All guests:

  • Your pet's favourite food and treats

  • Bed and bedding

  • Toys (if required)

  • Any medication and instructions on how to administer (if applicable)

What times are check-in and check out?

All arrivals and departures are by prior arrangement.   As we are a small business, it is impossible for us to ensure that the animals in our care are being given the attention that they need if we are constantly manning reception and for this reason we kindly ask that we agree on times prior to the day.

For new boarding guests that we have not met before we recommend that they check-in by 9.00am at the latest so that they have time to get to know us and get used to their surroundings before bedtime.

What is the accommodation like?

Please come and visit us to see for yourselves.  We are always happy to welcome visitors and pride ourselves on being a small business so that we can ensure that your pet is given the individual care and attention that they need to enjoy their stay.  The accommodation is fully compliant with the requirements for establishments licensed to board animals and is heated, vet approved and checked annually by the council.  Pets of the same type from the same family can share accommodation.  None of our kennels or pens face each other, so our guests cannot see each other to help maintain a relaxed and calm atmosphere.  Each block is completely separate and gated so dogs, cats and small animals are all blissfully unaware of the other's existence!

Do you have refrigerators to store pet food / medications in?

Each kennel/pen has its own designated food storage area and access to refrigerator and freezer space is available to store any items that need to be chilled or kept frozen until needed.

My pet is on medication can they still come to stay?

We offer tailored care and are happy to welcome pets with non-contagious medical conditions and administer any medication required.  There may be a small additional charge for pets with complex needs.

Why do you ask for deposits?

Deposits reflect the time and costs that are put into taking bookings, keeping in touch with customers and the daily running costs of Meadow Vale to ensure that the accommodation is kept to the highest possible standard.  It also helps us to ensure that booking enquiries are honoured.

Is my XL Bully able to come to stay?

Unfortunately we are not able to accept XL Bully dogs, or any type of dog that match the description issued by the UK government, which is any "Large dog with a muscular body and blocky head, suggesting great strength and power for its size. Powerfully built individual. Adult male from 20 inches (51cm) at the withers. Adult female from 19 inches (48cm) at the withers." * Text taken directly from DEFRA.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but under the terms of our insurance policy it would be impossible for us to adhere to all the criteria they have stipulated, even if your dog has been certified as exempt.  The licensing department of your local authority should be able to help you in regards to finding kennels that are licensed to accept such breeds.
